Worrying stat that ranks Leo Messi as worst forward in La Liga

It’s hard to see Messi winning the Pichichi Trophy if the trend continues.

  • Having a non-penalty xG score of 4.33, Leo Messi has netted just one open-play goal in La Liga, xGPhilisophy report; this is actually the worst result in the league.
  • The expected goal (or xG) measures the quality of a shot based on several variables, basically saying how likely it is for a particular shot to result in a goal.
  • Only Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, with 3.89 non-penalty xG and zero goals, has a worse result than Messi in the top 5 leagues.
