Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick on Sunday to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 6-0 annihilation of Sao Tome & Principe in their final 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Osimhen opened the scoring as early as the 13th minute of the game after heading in from a corner kick off the boot of Leicester City winger, Kelechi Iheanacho.
Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman made it 2-0 in favor of Nigeria in the 27th minute after being set up by Wilfred Ndidi.
Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi got a goal in the early minutes of the second half to extend the Super Eagles lead to three.
Following the goalkeeper of Sao Tome’s foul, Osimhen received his brace via a penalty.
AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze laid on a superb assist for Osimhen to score his hat-trick, thereby making it 5-0 to Nigeria.
Chukwueze then went from provider to scorer after netting the Super Eagles’ sixth goal courtesy of an assist from Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface as Nigeria ended the AFCON qualifiers in style at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The Super Eagles also finished as group leaders with 15 points from six matches ahead of Guinea Bissau as both countries will be playing at the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.
