While the referee slammed Messi for lacking respect, the rival fans appreciacted the beauty of his incredible free-kick goal.
Leo Messi scored a stunning goal – the 600th in his career – in the 3-0 over Liverpool in 2019. While Bjorn Kuipers, the referee of the game didn’t like the long celebration, there is little Liverpool fans can blame Leo for.
ballakafla (opinion from Reddit here and onwards): “I don’t recall Messi celebrating particularly arrogantly tbh. Who wouldn’t go a bit wild if you’d put your team 3-0 up in a Champions League semi-final?”

theflowersyoufind: “To be honest, I’ve got nothing against Messi. Who wouldn’t go crazy after that free-kick?”
A-Wild-Moo-Cow: “If I remember correctly this was Messi’s 600th goal for Barca? Don’t remember an overly excessive celebration either.”
getyerhandoffit: “I’m not that bothered by Messi’s antics here, wouldn’t mind some of that refereeing in the PL though.”
WowDoILoveEatingAss: “Does anyone have the video of his celebration? I remember being gutted that the kick went in, but I don’t remember getting mad at him for the way he celebrated it.
“Edit: I can only find him running to the end line and sliding, honestly unless he took a jog around the entire perimeter of the pitch after that seems like a slight overreaction.”
