Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta is ‘in talks’ with Jorge Mendes over the possible transfer of his agent Cristiano Ronaldo, Diario AS say.
However, this report is hard to believe as it is coming from Mario de la Riva, not the most reliable Diario AS journalist.
There might be two reasons why the Spanish press is spreading this rumour, though. And they benefit both parties, actually.
First of all, Barca being in talks with Cristiano might be used as leverage in order to push Bayern Munich to sell Robert Lewandowski. It would create the illusion of Blaugrana having an alternative.
Second, the Portuguese being linked with us might be an initiative for other clubs to step up their interest in him. The 37-year-old is reportedly looking to leave Manchester United this summer but is yet to find a suitor.
It’s hard to imagine the Catalans actually being interested in Cristiano considering his age, his massive salary, his Real Madrid past, and the fact that Xavi wants Lewandowski.
