A consortium led by US billionaire Todd Boehly has completed the takeover of Chelsea, it has been confirmed. They have bought the club from sanctioned Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
It has been previously reported in the English press that Boehly plans to make two ‘statement signings’ this summer to announce himself.
One of them could be Ousmane Dembele. According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with the Frenchman. If they do, Barca’s chances of retaining Dembouz’s services would evaporate.
The second way the takeover might affect Barcelona is the Alonso and Azpilicueta saga. Both players are heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou but their futures were unclear as Chelsea had been banned from any transfer activity, including selling players.
Now the new owners are officially in and the sanctions are lifted, Chelsea are open to the idea of selling Alonso and Azpi to Barcelona. That’s what Diario Sport reports.
However, it is unclear how much the Blues would ask for the duo. Barcelona are not willing to spend a lot of money on the players and would move on to other targets if Chelsea’s asking price is deemed too much.
