The most recent step taken by Tesla is the introduction of a new feature catering to customers who have made substantial investments in the Tesla ecosystem. Tesla adds new function which allows exclusive charging if their cars using the power generated by their home’s solar panels and a Powerwall charger.
This innovative capability has been integrated into the Tesla mobile app and is accessible to owners who possess both of these components.
Dubbed “Drive on Sunshine” initially, Tesla coined this mode when it was initially launched in May. It is now referred to as “Charge on Solar,” following a simplification and renaming of the feature. This option is available to Tesla owners in the United States and Canada who possess vehicles manufactured after 2021.
The emergence of widespread solar panel installations and the growing popularity of electric vehicles have led many to envision a future where these two technologies would intersect. However, while there have been notable advancements in solar-powered car roofs by companies like Lightyear, Fisker, Karma, Toyota, and even Tesla, such vehicles have yet to gain significant traction on the roads.

In the meantime, Tesla adds a forefront of enabling solar-powered charging through the integration of home solar panels and chargers.
