“I was not Laporta’s coach. I had that feeling from the first moment, after the election, there was no click. There was a lack of the necessary support from above,” Ronald Koeman has told Dutch outlet AD.
“The important thing was not the money for me. I really wanted to succeed as a coach at Barcelona, to do everything I could, but I realised that Laporta wanted to get rid of me because I was not appointed by him,” the Dutchman added.
Interestingly, Joan Laporta actually voiced his support for Ronald Koeman quite often after he won the presidential election. The president only changed his stance after his relationship with Koeman became worse in the summer.
In November, Laporta sacked Koeman and admitted that he probably should’ve done it even earlier.
As a reminder, it was Josep Maria Bartomeu who appointed Koeman as Barca’s head coach in 2020.
