The Durres Prosecutor’s Office in Albania has stormed the offices of Egnatia FC to seize the medical records of Raphael Dwamena, a Ghanian player who died on the pitch on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
This is according to a statement issued on X by the founder of Ghanasoccernet, Ibrahim Sannie Daara on Monday.
Daara said that Egnatia FC doctors and other senior staff of the club have been interrogated as state investigations continue into the cause of the death of the Ghanaian footballer.
He added that the report of a forensic expert will expected to be added to the file before the next line of action is taken by prosecutors.
Meanwhile, doctors at the Kavaja Hospital in Albania have said that Dwamena was dead before the ambulance carrying him arrived at the hospital despite arriving in record time.
“The patient came to the Kavaja hospital in the ‘black code’, that is, he had exitus (medical term for death), without vital parameters, without tension, without breathing, without cardiac activity. There was no activity in the EKG,” said Dr Lala.
Daara further said that the body of the late Ghanaian striker has also been transported to the Albanian capital of Tirana for an autopsy.
The Ghanaian journalist stated that this is because prosecutors want to know the exact cause of death of the Egnatia player.
Dwamena collapsed on the field in the 23rd minute of the first half of the round 13 match between Egnatia and Partizani at the Rrogozhina Stadium in Kavaje on Saturday.
He was said to have suffered a cardiac arrest and died on the way to Kavajë Hospital. After his death, all sports events in Albania were either postponed or suspended.
Team doctors, ambulance personnel and the doctors of the hospital in Kavaje were questioned after which Dwamena’s medical records were also seized.
“The investigation by the prosecution seeks to clarify the cause of the loss of the player’s life during the match,” Daara said.
