The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has disbursed cash to over 12,000 households’ children in Borno State.

The kids were drawn from 11 local councils of the state affected by the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency that claimed life and property.

UNICEF’s Chief of Field Officer, Phuong Nguyen, stated, yesterday, in Maiduguri, that the cash transfer was to support the children’s access to hygiene kits of their choice.

“Our new humanitarian cash transfer initiatives supported beneficiaries’ access to hygiene items,” she said.

The disbursement was launched with the support of United Kingdom government’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), with the Cash4Wash initiative for its first kind executed by UNICEF in Nigeria.
