Lagos State government, yesterday, revealed that its mobile court prosecuted 1120 motorists for driving against traffic (one-way) in 2021.
The coordinator, Lagos State Mobile Court, Mrs. Arinola Ogbara-Banjoko, disclosed this during a sensitisation visit to some communities and motor parks in the state, aimed at cautioning residents against traffic offences.
She maintained that the court ensures fairness to everyone.
Reminded there are places without signs to alert motorists, she said: “Most of the time, where such situations occur and these defendants are brought to court and during fact finding, the court sees that there was no sign or maybe a construction was going on, these drivers are usually released, cautioned and discharged.”
Ogbara-Banjoko said the sensitisation is the third in the series of the mobile court’s quarterly awareness initiative.
She said the action is in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S. AGENDA of the current administration.
She added: “These offences are strict liability offences and are punishable under the Transport Sector Law of Lagos State 2018. In view of the foregoing, we warn members of the public, particularly road users, to desist from violating traffic laws.
“Road users are enjoined to partner with the state government towards ensuring preservation of life and property and free flow of traffic on the highways.”
