Mozambican President meets member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Monday, July 4, met with Yang Jiechi, a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, in Maputo for bilateral talks.

Yang began by conveying cordial greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He noted that China firmly supports Mozambique in exploring a development path that suits its own national conditions, and supports the Southern African country in maintaining national security and stability.

Yang added that China is willing to carry out all-round exchanges with Mozambique, and push forward bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, energy and other fields to achieve more results.

Yang Jiechi said China would like to continue to support Mozambique’s fight against natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic and to further carry out cultural exchanges.

Yang took the opportunity to congratulate Mozambique on behalf of China for being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He said China supports Mozambique to play a constructive role in maintaining international peace and security and supports African solutions to African issues.

On his part, President Nyusi congratulated China on the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, wishing the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a complete success this autumn.

The Mozambican President noted that the two parties and countries of Mozambique and China enjoy traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation, and are good partners who trust each other.

President Nyusi took the opportunity to express Mozambique’s gratitude to China for its long-term active support for the country’s economic and social development and full support for its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He reiterated that Mozambique is firmly committed to developing friendly cooperation with China and firmly upholds the One-China policy.

During the visit, Yang Jiechi also met with Mozambican Foreign Minister Veronica Macamo, and conducted in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
