Lil Wayne has been denied entry into the United Kingdom ahead of the Strawberries & Creem festival.
The rapper was scheduled to headline the Strawberries & Creem festival on Saturday, which would have been his first performance in the UK after fourteen years.
In a statement provided to Rolling Stone, the United Kingdom Home Office explained, “Any individual who has been sentenced to a custodial sentence of 12 months or more must have their application refused.” Strawberries & Creem also released a statement regarding the matter. “We are deeply disappointed by this sudden and negative ruling,” the statement read. “We have received very minimal notice, and the timing of the decision is, of course, upsetting for all involved – including Lil Wayne’s fans, as well as the festival team. Across the weekend, we still have an incredible array of artists joining us.”
This is the second festival Wayne has been unable to attend.
His performance at the Governor’s Ball in New York City was replaced with A$AP Ferg, which the festival explained was due to flight disruption.
Wayne’s UK entry refusal could be from his December 2020 run-in. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon stemming from weapons charges in 2007. Wayne was looking at a potentially hefty sentence of up to 10 years in prison but received a presidential pardon from President Trump on his last full day in office in January 2021.
