CAN sues Fed Govt over CAMA’s ‘bad’ provisions

The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has sued the Federal Government over the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (called CAMA) for some of its controversial provisions the association is not comfortable with.

A statement on Monday in Abuja by CAN General Secretary Joseph Daramola reads: “The suit between the Incorporated Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria and Corporate Affairs Commission and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment was filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The case was mentioned at the Federal High Court, Abuja today (March 15).

“The plaintiff’s counsel, led by Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN), included Prof. J. Amupitan (SAN), Wale Adesokan (SAN), Isaac Okpanachi, Comfort Otera Chigbue, Godswill Iyoke, Dr. Cyril Obika, Geraldine Mbah, Francis Oronsaye, Oluniyi Adediji, Charles Ndukwe, Emmanuel Ekong, Darlington Onyekwere, Madu Joe-Kyari Gadzama, Lama Joe-Kyari Gadzama, Rev. Joseph Ilorah, Jerry Onbugadu Musa, Amazing Ikpala, and many other legal luminaries.

“The CAN leaders present in the court included the General Secretary, Joseph Bade Daramola, Elder Kunle Fagbemi, Senator Philip Gyunka, Elder Tunde Adegbesan, Rev. Dr. Testimony Onifade, the Director, Legal and Public Affairs, Comfort Otera Chigbue, and Senator Jonathan Zwingina.”

The statement said CAN took the legal action after all attempts to convince the Federal Government on why it should not intervene or interfere with the management of the Church in the country through any of its agencies had failed.
