Johan Cruyff used a similar formation back in the day but even he has little chance to make it work with the current squad.
Reddit user lineofsight7 shared his idea of how Barcelona should line up in order to get the best out of the squad we’ve got, drawing both an attacking and defensive shape for the team.

Although we applaud the creativeness behind it, we believe that such an experiment might cost us dearly in the end.
Why it won’t work:
- Pedri isn’t a natural winger, he tends to move closer to the centre; although this would open space for Alba, Pedri would end up occupying the same position as Coutinho.
- We would have only one player on each wing, Dembele and Alba, whereas now we play with two on each wing.
- The central area would get overcrowded, with Pjanic, De Jong, Coutinho and Messi all liking to drop deep to start attacks.
- The team would be too weak defensively, as De Jong isn’t as secure at the back as Gerard Pique.
- Having Coutinho and Pjanic as the two central midfielders when defending is risky; the two aren’t as good at tackling or intercepting the ball as Busquets and De Jong are.
