Three districts in Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado were forced to postpone the vaccination campaign against cholera scheduled to start on July 27, due to the turbulence and insecurity brought by terrorist attacks, Radio Mozambique (RM) reported on Friday.

“Current conditions do not allow us to do (vaccination) exactly on those sites when we requested the vaccine from the international funding partner,” said Magid Sabune, the Provincial Health Director speaking to RM in an interview.

The districts are Mocimboa da Praia, Macomia and Ibo where health authorities are still discussing mechanism for the vaccination work as people are fleeing their villages for fearing the attacks by the insurgents.

The director said he is confident that in the near future authorities will find a solution to resume the campaign in his province, where the water-borne disease is common.
