Death toll in villages of Mangu Council of Plateau State has risen to more than 100 persons.

A community leader in hiding, Dan Mangu, made the disclosure.

He said: “I am hiding now. The situation is worse again. The Fulani people brought in mercenaries to kill us. But we don’t have anybody to help us, except God. The security is overwhelmed. They are not helping us.

“The death toll is more than 100. We are talking about 150 now.”

Mangu noted that almost all buildings in the village had been destroyed and the attackers virtually taking over Gindiri town.

It was gathered that a mass burial had taken place.
This is even as a security team has arrested five suspects in connection with gruesome murder of women and children in Fungzai and Kubwat villages within same local council.

Spokesman for the state police command, DSP Alfred Alabo, in a statement, said the suspects are in custody of Special Task Force (STF) code-named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, had made further reinforcement, comprising senior officers, headed by DCP in charge of Operations, Emmanuel Ado, and assisted by ACP John Sendere.

The statement said troops from the special task force were mobilised to quell the insurrection.

It added that two Hilux vans, belonging to Civil Defence, were vandalised, while AK-47 rifle, a revolver pistol, cartridges and others were recovered from the attackers.

Onyeka assured the people of improved security.

State chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Rufus Bature and his PDP counterpart, Chris Hassan, condemned the attack, just as the senator representing the southern zone, Prof. Nora Daduut, did.
