Some fans were surprised, some thought it could be a message from Xavi to Dembouz as the Frenchman reportedly refuses to sign a new contract.

But it looks like the truth is simpler. Barca would have had to pay Dortmund €1.5m if Dembele played 45 more minutes, Mundo Deportivo report.

So with the forward’s future unclear, Xavi probably decided it’s best for all parties if Ous sat on the bench.
