The Spaniard’s January exit seems likely now – let’s think of 4 great destinations for arguably the most promising La Masia product.
Ajax
We all know Eric ten Hag as a great tactician while the Dutch side themselves play possession-based football which is very similar to what Barca are trying to do these days.
Ajax will play in the Europa League knockouts and are yet to fight for the Eredivisie title which means that a player like Riqui Puig would be a massive boost for their season remainder.
Arsenal
Just like all the clubs in this piece, the Gunners are being linked with the 21-year-old’s loan move. Although one should have a great physique to succeed in England, Puig may be the new David Silva of the Premier League… at least for half a season.
Mikel Arteta’s side actually need a midfield artist now that Mesut Ozil isn’t even registered for the 2020/21 campaign, and Riqui may be the one. His impressive passing and vision may save Arsenal the season.
Leeds
Perhaps even a better destination for Puig than Ajax. Apart from controlling the ball all the way during the game, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are known for their expressive attacking play. There are more than enough physical players at Leeds but a chance-creator like Puig is the one who they possibly need.
Real Betis
Carles Alena could tell Riqui a lot about the Andalusian side. This season, they are second behind Barcelona in average possession (59.4 per cent) and have a good chance of finishing the season in the top 7.
Interestingly, Alena could also spend the first half of 2021 at Betis.
