Jio Platform has come out with a new monthly plan that costs only 123 Indian rupees, or about $1.5, and gives users 14GB of data and unlimited talk calls. If you sign up for a year, the plan costs 1,234 Indian rupees, which is about $15.

Reliance said that the Jio Bharat will be available to customers starting July 7 as part of a “beta trial.” It said that the trial was set up to “ensure scalability” of the platform and methods for upgrading “millions of feature phone users.”

“This is another step in that direction with the new Jio Bharat phone. In a statement, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, said, “It is at the center of innovation, and it continues to show that we are focused on bringing disproportionate and real value to different groups of users with real-world use cases.”

The Jio Bharat is not the first low-cost phone that Reliance has made. Over the years, the Indian company has put out a number of cheap phones. Late in 2021, the company showed off its first smartphone, which was called JioPhone Next. The project was a big partnership with Google, which powered the device with a “extremely optimised” version of its Android mobile operating system.

Sundar Pichai said in 2021, “The JioPhone Next is an affordable smartphone made for India. It was inspired by the idea that everyone in India should be able to take advantage of the opportunities the internet creates.”

But the fact that the JioPhone Next cost $80 made it harder for more people to buy it.
