Yes Barcelona Fans, Victor Font is the best choice for the Barcelona Presidency and it’s not only because of Xavi!
Hey Everyone, another day and yet again, another blog right before the Champions League match against Ferencvaros. Today we’re going to talk about the soon-to-be vacant Presidency at FC Barcelona and not just why Font suits it best, but why the others do not.
I’m only really going to talk about the “big” few candidates that are actually running:
1. Toni Freixa
A former in the terrible Bartomeu and Rossell era of Barcelona’s history, he claims that since he’s left the club back in 2015, “Barcelona has never won the Champions League.” Not only do I despise this statement, his credentials are strongly against him. He was a part of a famous Bartomeu scandal where FIFA slapped a transfer ban on Barcelona from 2013-2015. Also, he was another one of the board members who thought to monetize the club instead of making it “The people’s club” as it was once known. Our motto is “Mes que un Club” (More than a club) we must be better than that. Johan Cruyff once said (And I am 100% paraphrasing), “Unicef is the main sponsor for Barca because our source of income should be from our games and wins.” And it makes sense. If anything, Freixa is another Bartomeu waiting to happen.
2. Jordi Farre
There isn’t much I can say negatively about Farre really. Yes he doesn’t trust youth players as much as a Barcelona president should, but all his other points are pretty solid. My main criticism is, he wants to bring Jurgen Klopp to Barcelona. And Yes, While all of you are calling me an idiot for not liking that, hear me out! If Barcelona do not continue with Koeman we will lose everything he has managed to rebuild at the club. (I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON AN ARTICLE FOR AN EVALUATION OF KOEMAN STAY TUNED) However, Klopp doesn’t understand Barcelona philosophy. Yes, he understands the stamina and physicality aspect of the game, but he doesn’t understand the intricate passing, and the quick tempo of purposeful passing football that we need to bring back. Also, he proposes the same threat Freixa does, that being that during a critical financial point, Barcelona needs to find other means of income and without buying players (being able to grow homegrown players). As much as I rate him for getting rid of Bartomeu from the presidency, I still don’t think
3. Augusti Benedito
Augusti Benedito was the first person who tried to kick Bartomeu out of Barcelona, but significantly failed. And here, Barcelona fans, is where I can say “No way, Jose.” Benedito’s campaign hasn’t been all that ever since he tried to get rid of him first. Unlike many of the better candidates, he’s been in development of his campaign for only 3 or so years, and he’s not that experienced but he did try to kick out Bartomeu so there’s that. Also, he wants Neymar back and I am pretty sure 80% of Culers don’t want that to happen, sooooo.
4. And Last but not least: Joan Laporta
Now we get to the most qualified candidate on this list. Not only has Laporta led Barca to success before, he has also led them to failure. But he managed to inspire the greatest Barcelona team that ever existed with the likes of Prime Lionel Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Dani Alves, David Villa, Puyol, Valdes, Busquets, Pedro, and Pique. The only thing I can say is that, quite frankly, Laporta’s Campaign has been below par. He had no power and determination and his campaign speech felt like a nostalgia story. He’s not the same Laporta of 2006.
Now finally: Why Victor Font is Right For Barca!
Not only has he been working on a project for 10+ years, he also has the backing of Xavi, Puyol, Guardiola, (privately) Iniesta, Juan Vila, Jordi Cruyff, and Alberto Puig. Not only that, Font wants to revolutionize La Masia, and bring back the glory days by bringing in Xavi to be the Cornerstone to his project. If he manages this, it would be the biggest sporting project we’ve seen in football since Pep Guardiola in the premier league. Font may seem as if he’s trying to appeal to the crowd, when he changes his opinion on Koeman, or a board member, but we have to remember, Font has been developing a plan for the last 10 years as a Barcelona Board, so he can’t just include and exclude whoever he wants.
