Early on Wednesday, the United Kingdom government announced sanctions on Roman Abramovich and 6 other Russian billionaires.
Here’s what the sanctions on the Chelsea owner mean for the club:
1. Chelsea can still operate under a special licence but the sale of the club is now on hold.
2. Chelsea will not be allowed to sell any more tickets – only season ticket holders can go to games for the foreseeable future.
3. The Government would need to give special dispensation for the sale of Chelsea, and no money could go to Abramovich either directly or indirectly.
4. No merchandise sales allowed; no player transfers or new contracts; catering services will be permitted. That means players whose contract expire in the summer like Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger will leave the club definitely.
5. As for Abramovich, he can no longer enter or leave the UK due to the travel ban slapped on him
