David Moyes says West Ham have had no contact from either Man Utd and Chelsea over Declan Rice and insists the club will rebuff any attempts to secure the services of the 22-year-old midfielder.
The England international is enjoying another excellent campaign and has long been targeted by the Blues, who released him from their academy as a youngster, with Frank Lampard keen to bring in a new defensive minded midfielder at Stamford Bridge.
In recent weeks, the Red Devils have also emerged as suitors for Declan Rice – who could be the perfect long-term heir to Nemanja Matic – however, any deal is believed to cost at least £70million.
The 22-year-old midfielder gave another strong showing in the Hammers s 1-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday and after the match East London club’s boss Moyes was asked about the rumours surrounding his star man and was adamant he was going nowhere.
‘They’re not true, we’ve had no contact from either of those clubs regarding Declan and we wouldn’t want any anyway,’ Moyes told Amazon Prime.
‘He’s doing great for us, he’s a big leader now, he’s taken a lot of the weight off Mark Noble. He’s turning out to be a really good player but also a really good boy and good around the club.’
While Moyes does not want to see any high-profile outgoings from the Hammers he has hinted that they are looking to bring in some new faces themselves before the end of the current transfer window.
‘I’d like some pace and someone who can run in behind because Michail [Antonio] does that and if we don’t have him through injury or we need to rest him we would like that type,’ he continued.
‘That would be something we would want if we could. The truth is there isn’t a big window of players available at this moment in time and Covid has had an impact on clubs and transfers.’
