- Messi’s deal with Barca expires in 2021 but presidential candidate Freixa wants to keep him at the club beyond that.
- Due to the economic crisis at Camp Nou, Leo, just like all the other players, will have to take a pay cut.
“With Leo Messi, we will speak calmly, face to face, keeping in mind what’s best for Barca. To him, as to all the players who have to renew their contracts or join the club, we will make offers that won’t match the conditions they have had until now,” Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa has told Mundo Deportivo.
“It is evident, and the club members cannot be deceived, that the proposal that will be presented to Messi will not be the same as he has had until now because our income has decreased significantly and another formula will have to be found.

“You don’t have to conquer Messi or convince him with other things, you have to look him in the eye and talk to know what each party wants, what he wants and what Barca wants. We think that Messi still has a lot of football left in him.”
Messi’s current deal expires in June 2021. He’s refused to renew his contract while Josep Maria Bartomeu was in charge but Toni Freixa, if he wins the elections, will try to convince Leo to stay. Starting with January, the Argentine can sign a pre-contract with another club.
