‘We need to improve, to finish games’: Kovacic highlights areas of improvement under Tuchel

Mateo Kovacic has cited 7 points in 9 games as evidence of Chelsea having improved a lot.
He has explained that Thomas Tuchel likes the team to move the ball forward quickly and be in the opposition half.
Kovacic says that Chelsea could get better by closing games out earlier.
“I think we’ve improved a lot in the last three games, we’ve got seven points. But we need to go game by game and try to be as up as possible and I think we can do it,” Kovacic told the club’s official website.

“I think we have little problems – we didn’t score against Burnley as well. In the last 15 minutes we were 1-0 up and it could be even more. This is a thing we need to improve, to finish games. I think this is one thing we will work a lot on.

“He [TT] explained to us what he wants. It’s exactly that – to play fast forward, to create chances, to be in the opposition’s half. I think we’ve improved a lot in the last three games but I think we can be even better & be even more confident.

“In the games coming, we will be even better and we need to even better because we can do it.

“It’s a good run [7 points from 9]. I think it should be nine because we had a great game against Wolves, unfortunately we didn’t win. But today we had another good game.

“Unfortunately we didn’t score the second to be more relaxed in the last 15/20 minutes. But it was a good game from us and we need to keep going.”

After struggling to start the season, Mateo Kovacic has also come into his own in the new system, flourishing in a midfield role that allows him more control and freedom in possession.
