Barcelona are expected to clean up shop this summer, with departures expected from every department on the pitch.
We’ve already studied the transfer status of the goalkeepers and that of the defenders.
Now, let’s look at the midfielders. This is one area Xavi will be looking to revamp, given it’s a position he should understand better than anyone.
Frenkie de Jong
The Dutchman has been a subject of intense transfer speculations. It looks like even Xavi doesn’t know whether Frenkie will leave or stay beyond this summer.
It’s a given that Barcelona will earn a lot of money if they decide to sell the player this summer, but selling him still doesn’t make sense.
Sell or keep? Keep
Riqui Puig
Barcelona have most likely lost their patience with Riqui Puig. The player’s career is also not being helped by him sitting on the bench.
Thus, the best bet is for Puig to leave and get regular playing time elsewhere next season.
Sell or keep? Loan
Pedri
Pedri is on his way to becoming a Barcelona legend in the future. However, the club must find a way to keep him fit.
Despite missing the better part of this season with injuries, he was among Barca’s most consistent performers.
Sell or keep? Keep
Sergi Roberto
With all his injury issues and age, it looks like the perfect time for Barcelona to move Sergi Roberto on.
However, it looks like Barca will do the opposite and hand him a new contract.
Offload or keep? Offload
Gavi
Barcelona have a gem on their hands in Gavi. However, he’s still rough around the edges and needs polishing.
There are big clubs outside Spain who are interested in signing Gavi, even this summer. Barca will do well to protect him by giving him a new contract.
Sell or keep? Keep
Sergio Busquets
Busquets has led the team from midfield this season. It’s stunning that a player his age (33) can comfortably make as many as 51 appearances for the club.
The Spaniard can still give two or three more seasons at the top level.
Sell or keep? Keep
Jandro Orellana
Barcelona have another raw talent on their hands with Orellana. Xavi has called him up to the first team, but yet to give the Barca B rising star a game.
Perhaps we get to see that during the preseason. For now though, he’s better off being involved with the first team, than being shipped off on loan.
