THREE things to expect in Chelsea’s first game of the season

The season has already begun and six games has been played. Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leicester City and Everton got off in style with impressive wins.

Same can’t be said of Fulham, Leeds, West Ham, Southampton, West Brom and Tottenham who – apart from Leeds and Southampton – were poor almost abysmal in the defeats they suffered.

There hasn’t been a single draw so far in this opening Weekend.

Monday night sees Chelsea travel to the Amex to face Brighton and Hove Albion while Sheffield United welcome Wolves to Bramall Lane.

Below are three things to expect in the Chelsea game.

#1. Havertz and Werner to make their debuts.
If you’re a Chelsea fan and you’re reading this, believe me I know how you feel. You can’t wait to go watch your new signings. Well, sorry to bust your bubble a handful of them are missing. Chilwell and Ziyech are injured while Thiago Silva hasn’t trained enough to gain match fitness. This leaves only German duo of Havertz and Werner as the most likely to make their competitive debuts for Chelsea today.

Werner would likely start in the Centre forward position with Havertz occupying a central attacking midfield role.

#2. Lampard to go with a very attacking Line up

What better game to test your new arrivals than against Brighton – a bottom table side whose sole ambition each season is to avoid relegation – with all due respect though.

Lampard would have the freedom of testing Havertz – a very versatile player–in the CAM position in order to find space on the left for Christian Pulisic. But for injury Hakim Ziyech would have likely started on the right but that position should now be taken up by the much maligned Hudson-Odoi.

Kovacic is suspended therefore Jorginho would likely partner Kante in central midfield while James, Alonso, Zouma and Rudiger are expected to round off the back four.

Chelsea would still have quality from the bench in Mason Mount and Giroud and/or Tammy Abraham. It’s a good time to be a Chelsea fan.

#3. Back goals at both ends

Chelsea, boosted by Werner and Havertz are expected to get goals here but can Brighton breach their defence.

The answer is, in fact, Yes! There’s no reason why the two teams shouldn’t find the net. Its still pretty much the same Chelsea defence that conceded 54 goals last term that will start at Brighton.

Brighton themselves are a team who transition well from defence to attack and with Chelsea’s usually vulnerable defence due to the highline they play under Lampard, Brighton should at least fancy themselves to get a couple of goals.

We should all brace ourselves for an entertaining game. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea is shaping up.
