Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has ruled out bringing in any new players during the remainder of the January transfer window.

The Blues have been linked with moves for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Bayern Munich’s David Alaba, and West Ham’s Declan Rice, among others.

This is off the back of the club spending more than £220m in the summer transfer window.

But their marquee signings of Kai Havertz (£71m) and Timo Werner (47.5m), in particular, have failed to fire.

And even the transfers of Ben Chilwell (£45m), Hakim Ziyech (£36m), and Edouard Mendy (£21m) have not been at their best in recent weeks.

Now it appears that Tuchel is content with his squad and will not be adding to it for now.

In today’s pre-match press conference ahead of their home game against Burnley on Sunday, the Chelsea manager was asked if he would make any signings: “No, [no gaps to fill] but it is hard for me to judge right now.

“I am very happy with what I have seen so far.

“N’Golo Kante came back today so we have 22 players and the goalkeeper.

“If a possibility comes along that we all agree on making us stronger right away, we will not hesitate, I’m sure. ‘But it’s not like we have the absolute need to do something, absolutely not?”

The former PSG boss explained why he chose Chelsea over other clubs.

“Why not? It was the opportunity with one of the biggest clubs in the world in the most competitive leagues in the world,” he said.

“We felt like we should absolutely not miss the chance to join the Chelsea family. It was a pretty easy choice.”

Tuchel was in the dugout for Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Wolves last night but was unable to inspire them to victory as the hosts failed to break down the resolute visitors.

Despite the result, Tuchel was positive about the club’s future.

“I don’t see too many weaknesses. I will focus on our strengths, the mix is amazing of the team between experienced players, big personalities and young, hungry talent,” he said after the game.

“I’m used to creating the special energy and atmosphere you need to create the possibility to win every three days in a league like this.

“We will build a team that nobody wants to play against.”

The result leaves Chelsea in eighth, five points off of fourth-placed West Ham.
