Manchester United will welcome Amad Diallo to the club in the coming days after agreeing a deal to sign him from Atalanta last summer.
United signed 18-year-old Diallo for a fee rising to £37million on deadline day in October and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will assess where Diallo fits into Manchester United’s plans after his arrival.
The club are yet to confirm Diallo’s shirt number so ahead of the January transfer window, here’s a look at all the options available.
No.12
With Edinson Cavani snapping up the number seven shirt, all of Manchester United’s numbers from 1 through to 11 are taken.
Number 12 is available after Chris Smalling’s exit on deadline day. The Englishman wore the shirt throughout his time at Old Trafford but it remains vacant after his switch to AS Roma.
NO. 15
Andreas Pereira’s move to Lazio on loan means the number 15 is available for Diallo to inherit.
Nemanja Vidic is the most famous wearer of 15, whilst Adnan Januzaj, Daley Blind and Gary Neville have all donned it.
No.19
Diallo could take the number 19, which was most recently worn by Marcus Rashford before he upgraded to 10.
The shirt was most famously worn by Dwight Yorke during United’s 1999 treble triumph.
No.20
Diogo Dalot’s season-long loan to AC Milan means number 20 is now free too. Sergio Romero, Robin van Persie and, of course, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all worn this number
No. 30
Guillermo Varela was the last player to don the number 30 for Manchester United, although it was briefly handed to Matteo Darmian in 16/17.
No.32
Number 32 has been vacant since Sam Johnstone left the club permanently to join West Brom. Victor Valdes and most famously Carlos Tevez have also worn 32.
No.79
Diallo wears this number for Atalanta so it’s possible he could opt for it again in Manchester.-
As we get further down the list of numbers between 1-99, more and more become available but those higher numbers are usually reserved for youth-team players or are numbers chosen for sentimental reasons, such as Donny van de Beek opting for the number 34 in tribute to his former Ajax teammate Abdelhak Nouri.
