Super Eagles goalkeeping prospect Adeleye tips Nigeria for AFCON success

Super Eagles prospect and Hapoel Jerusalem goalkeeper, Adebayo Adeleye, believes Nigeria is blessed with the required talents to win its fourth Africa Cup of Nations title next February in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles are grouped alongside seven-time champions Egypt, 1970 AFCON winners Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau in Group D.

It is a group Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles should have no problem scaling through. But it is in the business end of the tournament – the knockout rounds – that the Super Eagles will need to be wary of other teams in the tournament.

Adeleye is, however, confident the Super Eagles will be ready to take on the rest of Africa when the competition gets underway next January and make it all the way to the final game of the tournament.

In an exclusive chat with The Guardian from his base in Israel, the former Nigeria youth international maintained that Rohr’s wealth of experience will go a long way in propelling the Super Eagles to success in Cameroon.

According to the 21-year-old shot stopper, the Franco-German coach, who had previously managed the national teams of Gabon and Burkina Faso, is now abreast with African football styles, having led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, and such knowledge will go a long way in preparing the Super Eagles for the task ahead
Adeleye is eagerly awaiting a first Super Eagles cap, and he expressed confidence in Rohr’s ability to dig deep into his technical books of tricks and come out with the right formation to face the rest of Africa at the AFCON.

“I believe we have a great coach, who is quite knowledgeable with African football after his years of experience in the continent. Besides, Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents to become Africa’s best in Cameroon, with God on our side,” said Adeleye who, however, warned that Nigeria should not underrate Sudan and Guinea-Bissau given the age long antecedents of dark horses in African football fiesta.
