South African cricketer Dale Steyn has retired from all forms on cricket bringing to an end a 20-year career during which he carved out a reputation as his country’s most feared fast bowler and became the all-time leading wicket-taker in Test cricket.

“It’s been 20 years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank,” Steyn wrote in a social media post on Tuesday.

“Today, I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bittersweet but grateful.”

“Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together.”

The 38-year-old claimed 439 wickets from 93 Test caps as well as 196 from 125 One-Day Internationals and 64 from 47 T20Is.

His last international was in February last year, a T20 International (T20I) against Australia last year having retired from Test cricket in August 2019.

Steyn has struggled with a series of injuries the last few years. In November 2016, during a tour of Australia, he suffered a career-threatening shoulder injury.

Players, past and present, and teams from across the cricketing world paid tribute to Steyn following his announcement hailing his impressive career and character.
