Solskjaer’s Man Utd first team plans for Amad Diallo become clear

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans on throwing Amad Diallo straight into the Manchester United first team, as they prepare for his long-awaited arrival.

United sanctioned a deal worth in the region of £37million to sign the highly rated Atalanta winger, on the final day of the summer window.

But due to ongoing work permit issues, Solskjaer was made to wait for his new signing – spending the first half of the campaign with the Italian club.

Diallo has only made two appearances in the opening months of the season, but Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini admitted he wanted the player to stay until the summer.

“There is an internal solution that could be very interesting, which is Amad Diallo. Clearly, Manchester United own him, but he could remain with us for a few more months,” said Gasperini last week.

However, the Atalanta boss has now admitted defeat, with the 18-year-old flying out to Rome to finalise his arrangements at the Ivory Coast embassy.

Solskjaer spoke of his excitement of working with Diallo, after he revealed the final obstacle had been cleared.

After beating Aston Villa, he said: “We have had all the paperwork, I can’t see any obstacles. He’s coming.

“I hope very soon he will be with us. I’m very excited about bringing him in. I think he’s shown a few times his qualities.

“Of course he has to learn to play in England, that’s a different level of football. We’ll give him time to develop and to express himself.

“Apart from that, I’m not really thinking too much on what we’re going to do with players. Of course, we’re always working long-term.

“That’s the big thing. We have targets we need long-term for the club.”

Diallo is likely to be used on the right-hand side of United’s attack, a position Solskjaer has been desperate to fill for some time.

The Norwegian spent much of 2020 chasing Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, although they ultimately failed to meet the Bundesliga club’s £108m valuation.

Recent reports have claimed that United have cooled their interest in Sancho, which could point to their expectations of the young Ivorian.
