McTominay had to be substituted for a case of ‘tummy rubbles’ before half-time.
Ole wanted to bring on Martial to move Pogba into a central role and enable him to control the game for United.
When asked on why he replaced Scott McTominay with Anthony Martial instead of someone like Nemanja Matic against Arsenal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “I felt we had the upper hand but didn’t get Paul [Pogba] in the game the first half an hour.
“We wanted him to get on the ball more and Anthony [Martial] to drive at them – and he created a good chance for Edinson in the second-half. We wanted Paul to dictate the play more.”
While Pogba did get into the game much more in his natural midfield role, he couldn’t really create a major difference in the game. Martial also had an underwhelming night at left-wing, not being able to redeem his recent disappointments as the Red Devils could only scrape a goalless draw on the night.
