Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United are in fine form at the moment, climbing up the league table almost at will.
Now, though, attention turns to the Carabao Cup. Tomorrow night, United will take on City in the semi-final, with a place in a Wembley showpiece at stake.
Ahead of that game, Solskjaer met the media in order to discuss a variety of topics, amongst those was the all-important team news. He’d confirm that the Red Devils will be without a first-team duo for the huge semi against our local rivals – with both Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones missing.
“We’re disappointed not having Edinson involved,” said Solskjaer per ManUtd.com. “But he’s probably the only one not [available] and, of course, Phil Jones has been out for a long time. They’re the only two not available for selection, which is a good position to be in.
“We’re confident. We’re going into the game in good form so there’s no excuses. The squad is focused and we’re ready to give it a go. We’ve prepared well for this game.”
While in particular, it sucks not to have Cavani available for the Manchester derby, the squad is in great shape right now.
This leads me to believe that Victor Lindelof is now back fit, with the Ice Man a nice option to have. It also gives Solskjaer a chance to give Eric Bailly a well-deserved rest.
In regards to Jones, this is just the norm now. He’s always injured and we shouldn’t expect anything less. The sooner he’s off the books, the better.
Now, it’s about going out there and showing why we deserve to make it into this final. This will be our fourth cup semi under Solskjaer. It’s definitely time to take that next step. Sure, that’s easier said than done given our opponent, though we have to believe in this squad and this manager, particularly given how well we’ve played of late.
