Messi wore a no.10 Newell’s jersey underneath his Barca shirt as a tribute to Maradona.
Coutinho reckons that in Diego, the whole world lost a football idol.
After the game against Osasuna, the reporters asked Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann to comment on Leo Messi’s tribute to the late Diego Maradona.
“We have lost Diego, who was an idol around the world who everyone in football admired and is going to miss. Messi’s gesture was a nice homage to him,” said Coutinho.
“Messi’s goal celebration? We didn’t know about the tribute that Messi had prepared for Maradona. It was a nice surprise,” Griezmann added.
After his goal against Osasuna, Leo removed his Barcelona shirt to reveal an old No.10 jersey that looked like a replica of the shirt Maradona wore during his time at Newell’s Old Boys. As a reminder, Messi played for Newell’s academy as a child.
