“Bow down before the champions, you a**hole” – that what the Cameroonian shouted on camera as he won the La Liga title in his debut season with Barca.
Samuel Eto’o is a Barcelona legend even though he started his career at the Real Madrid academy. Los Blancos discarded him for being ‘too ugly’ and not Galactico enough – they made the same mistake with Ronaldinho.
After making just 7 first-team appearances for Los Blancos, Eto’o made his name at Mallorca first and then secured the €27m transfer to Barcelona. He won the La Liga title in his debut 2004-2005 campaign for the Catalans.
Eto’o celebrated the win in style, as per The Guardian’s Sid Lowe. “Madrid, cabrón, saluda al campeon!” he shouted into his microphone.
“Madrid, you a**hole, bow down before the champion!” here’s how this phrase could be translated.
The Cameroonian great said it 6 times, by the way. He clearly wanted to make a point.

In any case, Eto’o quickly called a press conference to publicly apologize for his words which only confirmed his undeniable class. He said: “I spat on the plate that once fed me, for which I am sorry. A thousand apologies.”
Eto’o scored 25 goals in the title-winning 2004-2005 La Liga season. In total, he managed 130 goals in 199 games for Barcelona.
