Revealed: world greats who snubbed Messi for Best FIFA award

  • Leo won The Best FIFA Men’s Player award on Monday.
  • Manuel Neuer, Robert Lewandowski, Andy Robertson and Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t back the Barca icon for the prize.
  • As for coaches, only Germany’s Joachim Low snubbed Messi in his list.

Lionel Messi beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award in 2019. Shortly after Monday’s ceremony in Milan, it has been revealed Leo’s bitter rival from Juventus omitted the Barca icon from his pick for the best player of the last season. Instead, he voted for Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Kylian Mbappe.

As for Messi himself, he backed his Portuguese counterpart, Sadio Mane and De Jong. But who else snubbed Lionel for the prestigious prize? Only Germany’s Manuel Neuer, Poland’s Robert Lewandowski and Scotland’s Andy Robertson didn’t give a single point to the 32-year-old. Germany’s Joachim Low also opted against Leo in favour of Eden Hazard, Mbappe and Mane.
