The reasons why Manchester United’s chief executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward pulled out of the deal to sign Moises Caicedo have been revealed in a report published by the Manchester Evening News.
Manchester United were the favourites to sign Independiente del Valle midfielder Moises Caicedo and seemed to be the only club in the running for him up until a week ago.
Just over a week ago, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the next few days would decide whether or not United sign the Ecuadorian international. It seems as though he was right but unfortunately it looks as though Caicedo is going to a different Premier League club.
Brighton have officially submitted a bid for the 19-year-old and so they are the favourites to capture his signature and bring him to the AMEX Stadium.
Last week, the Manchester Evening News reported that the deal had been stalled because Independiente had upped their price from £6 million to £10 million for United and that they also wanted a 20 percent sell-on clause inserted in the player’s contract, meaning that if United chose to sell in the future, they 20 percent of the fee would be given to the South American outfit.
However, now MEN are reporting the real reasons as to why Manchester United have pulled out of the deal to sign Caicedo. They are claiming that United pulled out of it because there were far too many intermediaries involved, complicating the deal and that the deal became far too ‘messy’ for Woodward to proceed.
The report also claims that Caicedo was willing to work with anyone to get him his dream move but there were far too many involved from the get-go for the deal to be completed successfully.
