One time when Eden Hazard was ‘up there with Messi and Ronaldo’ as per John Terry

There was a time when he could take the game by the scruff of the neck.

In 2014-15 season, Eden Hazard was in a scintillating form. He started each Premier League game for Chelsea, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists in the Blues’ quest for the Premier League title.

Of course, it was also the season when Diego Costa announced himself to the league, but he was not as reliable physically. In April 2015, Costa lasted just 10 minutes in a game against Stoke City – so Hazard took the matter into his own hands, scoring and providing an assist for Loic Remy in a 2-1 win.

In a post-game interview, John Terry couldn’t have been more elated as he praised Eden’s input.

“He was excellent,” Terry told Sky Sports.

“He has been our best player by a long way this year and in those games when you are looking for a bit of extra, a bit of magic from someone he is the one who steps up and managed to create something.

“He is up there with the [Lionel] Messi’s and [Cristiano] Ronaldo’s and can still get better and better.”

Everybody seemed to be in agreement with Terry’s assessment as that year, Hazard was voted the Premier League Player of the Year by football writers, fans and fellow players alike.

Most importantly, however, he led the Blues to his first Premier League trophy, a feat he would repeat two years later.
