The gaffer believes it’s wrong to label Van de Beek’s signing as a failure just because he isn’t playing that often.
Ole says that Donny is challenging with some quality midfielders like Bruno and Pogba, making it difficult for him to start games.
But Solskjaer tips the Dutch midfielder to make the same kind of impact like Fred or Lindelof, both who struggled early on at United.
When asked about Donny van de Beek’s lack of appearances this season for Man United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Donny has played well when he’s had the chance.
“I think we are too quick sometimes to jump on, ‘oh he’s not playing, it’s a failure’. But with Victor (Lindelof) and Fred as examples, it takes a little bit of time and now they are massively important players in our squad, in our team, which will be the same with Donny.
“He has come in and he is in a midfield group there with quality, challenging with Bruno (Fernandes), Juan (Mata) and Jesse (Lingard).
“I have loads of No 10s, loads of central midfielders with Paul (Pogba), Nemanja (Matic), Scott (McTominay) and Fred, and Donny has done well when he has come in.
“He is always ready, he always works hard in training, he’s positive and he will make differences in many games for us this season. He will grow more and more for next year.”
Van de Beek has made 19 appearances for United (in all competitions) this season, only starting 2 games in the Premier League. However, he’s started in every single of our Carabao Cup games this season and should feature once again in the big semi-final game against Man City on Wednesday.
