Eduardo Bermudez believes Leo could still decide to play for his boyhood club as he definitely has a soft spot for the Argentine club.
He says he adores the Barca star, describing his tribute to Diego Maradona as ‘tremendous’.
“Hopefully someday, when Messi decides, we can have him back here because we love him here. I adore and love Messi,” Newell’s Old Boys’ president Eduardo Bermudez told Carrusel Deportivo, speculating on Leo’s return.
On Leo’s tribute to Diego Maradona, he added: “I had no doubt that, because of the love he has for Newell’s, he would do a gesture. It was tremendous.”
Messi started his football career at Newell’s, reportedly scoring 234 goals in 176 games between 1994 and 1999.
When Messi was trying to leave Barca this summer, the Newells’ fans organized a march through the city of Rosario in a bid to make the iconic star return to Argentina.
