Mount is a master when it comes to off the ball work, details Rudiger.
Werner, Abraham and Giroud also contribute with their work-rate up front.
It benefits Chelsea when the defending starts in the final third, Rudiger adds.
“Yeah, I think the master of this [is] Mason Mount — he does really great work off the ball,” Antonio Rudiger told Chelseafc.com when inquired about the team’s defensive work-rate.
“Timo [Werner] also did well, and Tammy [as well] who unluckily got injured and had to be subbed off early. Oli [Giroud] came in and also did great work [against Newcastle].
“I think it works well for us [that our] defending starts up front.”
According to Statsbomb data (via FBref), Chelsea have attempted 31.4 pressures in the final third per game this season — the sixth-highest in the Premier League.
Chelsea often play with a high defensive line as they attempt to win the ball further up the field so that it can lead to more goalscoring chances. The likes of Mount are very important for this tactic to work, and we are indeed lucky to have such workhorses in the team.
