Manchester United fans are split on the prospect of Memphis Depay rejoining the club in the January transfer window.
Memphis arrived at United under much fanfare from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015 but the move didn’t go to plan and he lasted just a year-and-a-half before joining Ligue 1 side Lyon.
However, the Dutchman has gone on to mature into a fine, versatile striker while in France, scoring 62 goals and providing 47 assists in 155 games, which has repeatedly seen him linked with a return to Old Trafford.
Memphis was also heavily touted to join his former national team manager, Ronald Koeman, at Barcelona this past summer but the cash-strapped club were unable to get the deal over the line.
As a result, the 26-year-old is now into the final year of his contract and could walk away from Lyon for nothing at the end of the season.
That’s unless they sell Memphis this coming January so they don’t lose him on a free, regardless of however minimum the fee is. The Sun reports that he could be available for as little as just £4.5million in the new year, which has also tempted Italian giants Juventus to enter the race as well as Barca.
United, meanwhile, still have a buy-back clause on Memphis should they decide to sign him themselves. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains short on options in attack and is set to lose Odion Ighalo at the end of January as he returns to parent club Shanghai Shenhua, which could make a move for their former front-man an intriguing one.
However, supporters appear to have mixed feelings on the idea. Some fans believe that, for such a low fee, Memphis would be a great signing to add reinforcements to the front-line, while others would rather the club focus on other positions.

United will have at least one new attacker arrive at the club in January as Atalanta youngster Amad Diallo will complete his move to Manchester after agreeing to join in the summer.
M.E.N. Sport also understands that United are trying to recruit highly rated Ecuadorian teenage midfielder Moises Caicedo this January as well.
