After weeks and weeks of negotiations, Manchester United have reached a complete economic agreement with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong.

However, according to reports in the Spanish media (news image provided below), the deal is still far from completion.

As per Sport, Man Utd have agreed a fee in total to hire the services of the Dutch midfielder but he is not convinced of his departure due to economic reasons.

The Catalan side owe him amounts in deferred wages and the 25-year-old wants to receive a good part of his deferred wages starting this season. However, the amounts to be paid does not fall within what United is willing to pay.

Man Utd do not want anything to do with the payments pending at Barcelona’s end. They have been trying to close the signing for 14 weeks, and have given an ultimatum to the midfielder’s agents to complete the deal this week or they will back off.

Over at Mundo Deportivo, it is reported that if De Jong does not move to Manchester United then there will be “fair play” problems and that is why Barca are forced to sell him.

The alternative solution would be to reduce the gross salary of £488,000 a week but the Netherlands international has warned that he will not be willing to take a pay cut if he stays at the Nou Camp.

Moreover, he continues to insist that he does not want to leave. The Blaugrana are aware of the situation and are looking to resolve it.
