Manchester United have joined Chelsea in the race for Declan Rice, according to reports.
While January is set to be a quiet month for United, M.E.N. Sport understands that the club are looking to sign four players to complete their squad overhaul in 2021.
As well as a right-back, centre-back and right-winger, a new defensive-midfielder is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wish list.
According to ESPN, United have identified West Ham’s Rice is the ideal man to fill the position as he continues his fine form this season.
It’s reported that the 22-year-old is ‘among the options in midfield’ for United and that the player is aware of their interest.
However, there is reportedly an acceptance in Manchester that long-time admirers Chelsea remain in pole position to complete the signing.
Whoever wins the race they will have to cough up big money to do so as Rice is contracted to the Hammers until 2024. The report adds that West Ham would demand at least £70million for his signature.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United are reportedly interested in signing United duo Brandon Williams and Jesse Lingard.
The pair have made just nine appearances between them this season, with neither starting in the Premier League, and have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford in January, in Williams’ case on loan.
