“Why did I sign for Barcelona? I wanted to play in a league other than the Bundesliga, I had made that decision for a long time. But I have to emphasise that it was the hardest decision of my life,” Robert Lewandowski said in his interview with Bild.
“I wanted to live somewhere else, to discover something new with my family. My daughter Klara will start school next year, we had to make this decision. If it wasn’t now, then that would probably never have been possible.
“Barcelona had problems last season. But the club has a huge potential and has made good signings. I think the club is on the right path, back to the top. My goal is very clear – to go up with Barca and win.”
Except for Bundesliga, Lewandowski only played in Poland. The majority of his career – 12 seasons – was spent in Germany, though.
The 33-year-old has joined Barcelona on a contract until 2026. The move cost the Catalans €45m plus €5m in add-ons.
