“It would be a good idea to create in the future a trophy to the best player of the season that bears the name of Messi,” La Liga president Javier Tebas said in 2018, as quoted by Twitter account @BarcaWorldwide.
Lionel Messi made his maiden appearance in the La Liga in 2004. He has gone on to score 640 and set up 282 goals in 741 appearances for Barcelona in the competition.
