“In life and football, you can win or lose. But there are defeats that are more painful than others. Believe me, my sorrow is bigger than you imagine,” Jorginho wrote on Instagram after Italy suffered a shock defeat to North Macedonia and missed out on the World Cup in Qatar.
“Football is not just a sport, it’s a school of incredible values. It teaches you to never give up, learn from mistakes, remain united in tough moments.
“To wear this jersey is a huge honour for me. We learn and get up. Let’s move on. Forza Azzurri, Forza Italia!”
Jorginho has already admitted that the two penalties he missed in two group stage games against Switzerland will haunt him forever. Had he converted at least one of them, Italy would’ve topped the group and qualified for the World Cup.
Rumours have already emerged that he might consider retiring from international football but his message seems to confirm that he will continue to represent Italy in the nearest future.
