Jordaan rates South Africa’s triumph as victory for African football

South African Football Association President, Danny Jordaan, has described Banyana Banyana of South Africa’s victory at the inaugural Aisha Buhari Women Football Championship as a victory for African football.

South Africa defeated Nigeria’s Super Falcons 4-2 in the final match of the maiden Aisha Buhari Cup, which ended in Lagos recently.

Jordaan, who was among the dignitaries at the final of the tournament, noted that Nigeria’s dominance of women’s football in Africa over the years pushed other countries to discover and nurture more talents in their countries.
He revealed that South Africa developed a continuous women football improvement programme to build the female, which has yielded a remarkable result in the Aisha Buhari Cup.

He thanked Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Lagos State government for organising the women football fiesta, adding that South Africa Football Association will not rest on its oars in its march to build formidable women national team.

“South Africa has proved a point in the Aisha Buhari tournament in Africa’s women football development by beating Nigeria in the championship.

“Cameroun, Morocco, Ghana and Mali took part in the tournament, but South Africa and Nigeria were outstanding in the championship.

“As a member of CAF, organising the women CAF Champions League is another platform to develop the game in Africa and discover more talents at the grassroots.
