Joan Laporta has just confirmed he’ll run for the Barcelona presidency. Here are the key quotes from his presentation:
La Masia
“We will work to renovate La Masia, so that the young players are good people and excellent athletes, and that they feel the responsibility and the feeling that comes with wearing the Barca shirt.”
Keep Messi happy
“To keep the best player of all time happy, you have to have a good team. When we signed Guardiola as a coach, I went to Messi’s house to explain the new project. He was aware at that time that to be the best player in history he needed a good team.”
New sources of income
“Barca’s economic situation is dramatic. Now it’s time to bring out the suitcase, roll up our sleeves, and start working hard to build a competitive team. We will devise new ways to increase the club’s revenue.”

Joan Laporta was in charge between 2003 and 2010, responsible for Ronaldinho’s transfer and Pep Guardiola’s appointment.
Laporta unsuccessfully ran for the presidency in 2015 when Josep Maria Bartomeu ended up winning the office.
The presidential election at Barca is expected to take place on January 24.
