Manchester United can keep their place at the top of the Premier League table when they face Fulham on Wednesday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side earned a point away at Liverpool over the weekend but know it will count for little if they are unable to win at Craven Cottage in midweek.

United are the only side not to have lost on their travels in the Premier League so far this season (W7 D2), while they have picked up the most points (23) and scored the most goals (22) on the road this term.

Here is how our writers think United should line up…

Solskjaer has rotated his squad throughout this season so you have to expect changes again here. Defensively the only question mark is probably over Lindelof or Bailly and I’d go with the former, with Bailly pencilled in to start the FA Cup tie against Liverpool at the weekend.

This is a game where United will come up against a low block, which is usually when Pogba and Matic start in the holding midfield roles. They will see a lot of the ball and it makes sense to give Fred and McTominay a rest after Sunday. One player who won’t be getting a rest is Fernandes, despite struggling at Anfield. He has to start.

Changes are needed in attack, with United struggling for goals at the moment. Cavani has to start in place of Martial, while Greenwood can come in on the right and Rashford on the left as part of a more standard 4-2-3-1.

United need to be respectful of Fulham – but that does not mean they shouldn’t look to rest a few key players ahead of the weekend.

Lindelof should be wrapped in cotton wool ahead of another clash with Liverpool, so Bailly should start in defence while Telles would also be a welcome addition at left-back.

Van de Beek has to start in the attacking midfield role with Matic and Pogba the sensible choices in the deeper midfield roles.

Mata would bring some much needed creativity to the forward line with Cavani the obvious selection up front. Rashford should start on the left.

Henderson is likely to start against Liverpool, so it would be logical to give him a game to prepare for that cup tie. Eric Bailly has another chance to stake his claim for a weekend start.

Pogba needs to be relocated to a role where he can control the game, as he did at Burnley, and Matic offers dependable cover. Regardless of what Solskjaer says, Fernandes needs a breather and this is a chance for Van de Beek to demonstrate his playmaking qualities.

Rashford stays in by virtue that Martial was worse at Anfield and United need a more natural right-sided option in Greenwood.
